Calvin and emma-jane in the harmonic house

What an absolute joy it was to work with up and coming talent Emma-Jane and Calvin Glen.

HARMONIES were on the agenda. Mixing up the blending of two different and distinct vocals. The result was liquid gold to my ears.

It is amazing what you can achieve in one session! From Emma-Jane taking her smooth angelic lead vocal and adding rock cool vocal vibes of Calvin sprinkling in some dynamic technique, harmony, range, confidence, and perseverance and you have a totally fresh take on a song.

Well done guys!
One happy coach x

So this is a picture of me looking like Queen Neffatiti, a 4000 year old Egyptian..".ok crazy lady take your meds" I hear you say...

Well I can assure you I am all there...well mostly I think.
This was me on Saturday, dressed up ready to act and entertain for a Murder Mystery! I don't think many know this about me but I am actually employed (sometimes) to run around and unleash the thespian in me. It doesn't happen a lot but when it does it feels pretty good. (Especially because I can act besides my husband!) Bonus.

As fun as it is. It is pretty scary sometimes, like singing (Which I find more comfortable doing indecently!). You need confidence..projection, range, pitch, and the look of enjoyment on your face which I know from the students I teach (when they are up on stage) can be so hard to do when all they want to do is just sing the darn song(s) not forgetting the lyrics.

The more you sing/act (Not much difference) or present yourself on stage, the more it kinda becomes easier...yes it does...trust me. Don't get me wrong, sometimes I want to run off and eat some chocolate wear my granny slippers tucking into a good book, but once you see the joy and fun the audience/fellow murder suspects are having then you remember why you do it.

I still warmed up beforehand. (Just like I do for singing)
  • Breathing check,
  • Posture check,
  • Physical warm up...jumping jacks check, neck rolls etc
  • Scales check,
  • Diction and articulation...Try saying TOY BOAT 10 times over really clearly is pretty hard...then I kind of felt more prepared. Envision a great positive outcome and appreciation at the end. Hey presto you have gotten paid for doing something FUN!!

TO BE OR NOT TO BE THAT IS THE QUESTION
To be of course Sir Shakespeare!!

Feelin' good

Ok so here's the thing. I am feelin' good. In a kind of Buble, Muse and in a Fitzgerald kind of way.

Why? Well where do I start? I have been on a complete juicing extravaganza. You name it I have juiced it. Beet root (raw), spinach, fennel, sugar snaps, ginger, lemon, lime, kale, courgette broccoli, pear, orange, apple, celery, you get the picture. I have added avocado, banana and natural yoghurt to the mix. (That part require blending) Sometimes following a specific recipe, but sometimes I chuck it all in and hope for the best…! It’s good to be creative right?! Look on youtube or google/buy books, or go to your local library for the many juicing/smoothie recipes! I could spend a year listing them…. I have added the amazing chia seeds and flax seeds reasons; incredible source of omega three, six and 9…what the body requires.

I have cut a lot of junk out of my body…a lot of bread, sugar rubbish, and a lot of caffeine. (Opting for green, chamomile, or lemon or ginger tea) I have also increased my water intake

I am sleeping better and feel really refreshed in the morning…wow this sounds like it could be part of an advert. I can assure you it is not. All from the horse’s mouth..erm so to speak.

I have started doing a little yoga too. I am afraid no pictures of this, maybe once I can look like a bendy elastic band.

Added with the luxury fragrances of lemon, lemongrass, neroli, lavender, rose essential oils this body mind and spirit has felt more alive than ever! Students have noticed a new fragrance each week. I don't like to disappoint.  Most people who know me would say “yeah Rebecca is pretty outgoing and crazy”, but I seriously feel the need to tell, singers, students, friends, that a little change can go a long way if you are feeling you are in a slump, need some much needed energy, or just generally feeling low. I have written a health pack for those who are interested in what I have to say! Here’s a sneak preview…;

Health pack survival guide for singers…

Look no further if you want to make the most of your beautiful machine; the body and the voice! Remember when you sing, you are not just using the vocal folds…you are using your whole body. I have come up with a few beneficial changes you may want to try to really get the best out of you! Each one of us has the power to make our lives better, happier and healthier.

Himalayan salt.

This wonderful pink uncontaminated stuff is 250 million years old. This salt is the best high quality salt you can get. It essential for life! Natural health promoting. A massive difference from the standard refined bleached table salt. Himalayan salt has been purified, re:crystallised…so many more chemicals are used in the salt! Yuk! A few benefits….;
  • Regulate and maintain blood pressure.

  • Nervous system. Chloride is essential for growth of the brain and growth of neurological function. The sodium activates the enzymes cells, for creative and long-time planning

  • Metabolism and digestion.

  • Adrenal function- responsible for the release of the hormones.

  • 84 minerals needed for the body

  • Great in cooking!

  • Great for baths!

No need to reduce this salt… it’s essential to use!

Sea salt is better but not ideal!

Also if you buy the rock type of Himalayan salt you can put some in a glass of water, wait for it to dissolve, (may take a day or two) take a teaspoon of it every morning before breakfast and put it in another glass will up with water and drink!

Buy on amazon or your nearest health food shop.

That’s me in the picture by the way. Smiling happy and content. Let me know if you have changed your diet, exercised more, or are sleeping better? As a result are your practice sessions better? can you sing for longer because of the increased energy levels?

Good luck and thanks for reading!!
