Bournemouth Rock Cafe
MooreMelodies Adult showcase
So the night has begun, the twinkly lights and spotlights are shining, the microphones are on the pa system on, electric and acoustic guitar ready to be strummed, everyone is looking good, and my students are quivering (I think with excitement) and vocal folds warmed up. Now let’s have another ‘hummmmm’.
This opportunity for some of the adults I teach was the first time they have EVER sung on stage in front of an audience. This is something not everyone in the world could do. Baring your soul to an audience, looking confident and singing with joy doesn’t always come easy. I have had my share of feeling mentally brutally attacked being on stage. Negative thoughts can take precedence over the actual love of singing. Sounds bizarre but its true! ‘what if I sound rubbish?, ‘What if I forget the lyrics’, ‘what ifs’ can go on for a long time...’What if the world exploded’, you’d think that was the case sometimes! But of course it doesn’t, and the show continues, and an audience can be very forgiving.
You must remember that this is all experience which will build your confidence.
Taking this huge step will take you on the path, your only special journey, your own goals, and ultimately this is an achievement everyone should be proud of. I know I am!
Once on the stage it’s quick to see the area students/singers need to work on. I won’t go into that here, will save that one for another time.
The Bournemouth Rock cafe was the location in Bournemouth funnily enough! Everything was organised in 2 weeks, so not bad really considering some people had only just decided a week, or one day to go. It’s impressive what you can do when you put your mind to it, don’t you think?
Friends and family supported everyone and it was a really lovely evening. Thank you the sound guy and to Suzy Wheeler who helped too.
I will most definitely be doing another Christmassyy show this year, new songs, some carols and more joy! Infact I hope to do one in April...so any takers?!
Congratulations to everyone who took part.
